Bangladesh + Busta Rhymes = The Return of the Dungeon Dragon

“If you are not bopping your head right now, you are not hip hop” declared Mister Cee as he took the reins of Hot 97’s mixmaster weekend at 8pm on July 4th. What you should have been bopping your head to, to confirm that you were indeed hip-hop, was Busta Rhymes’ “I Got Bass”.

I immediately thought of “A Millie” upon first listen and about 36 seconds in, there’s the screwed “to a goblin”-esque “King Kong and Godzilla”. I would come to find out later on over the weekend (via 2dopeboyz) that “I Got Bass” like “A Millie” was produced by Bangladesh. I then remembered Lil Wayne revealing on 106 and Park that he and Busta recorded upwards of 50 songs together so the possibility exists that the two songs could have been recorded around the same time which would further explain the similar vibe.

In between his demonstratively stating “You need this in your back pocket with your metrocard. Matter of fact, you need this in your back pocket with your gas card.” and threatening to change his name to Hancock, Mister Cee brought it back to the top several times. I wasn’t hip-hop until about the fifth time; for it was then that I started bopping my head.
